Wood

Green Oak

Whether it is a few new green oak beams or a full new green oak house frame or extension, the blasting of green oak must be carried out with great care, using the correct blast media and operating pressure.
An experienced blast cleaning operator can bring the natural colours, beauty, and texture out of green oak. The careful blasting will remove the blue staining often found on green oak, resulting from use of steel blades when cutting and working with the timber. Blasting will also remove the grey weathered look and water marks that can result if the weather and rain have been on the oak prior to being used in the building.

Old Oak Beams & Various Woods

We tend to use a fine abrasive media for blasting oak or softwood beams at low pressure.
For oak a slightly higher pressure is used, this is necessary for the removal of deeply ingrained dirt and paints.
Our preferred materials for oak beam and soft timber cleaning have been selected for their ability to achieve the required blast standard whilst minimising the damage to the old wood’s surface.
Dry blast cleaning on oak beams is the best method, as you have a consistent flow of blast media which gives a more uniform finish.
If wet blasting is used on wood, the clearing of the used grit far more labour intensive, and the wood may have water marks and unattractive staining left on the surface.

Sandblasting is the most effective way of cleaning wooden beams, fire places, window lintels, wooden panelling & roof A frames, though work of this nature can be very dusty. Ideally it is carried out in the early stages of the renovation or restoration of a property.
Every effort is made by K Blasting employees to limit the distribution of dust and debris when dry blasting of wood is carried out. Tarpaulins and heavy sheeting is used were appropriate to contain the dust. Glass, electrical fittings and so on can be masked off using cloth duck tape.
Our mobile unit is designed to be both cost effective & efficient.

Our professional staff love what they do and take a lot of pride in doing the best job possible.
